| About
the Popover and Beebles
The Popover was invented in New York City where many
buildings have revolving doors, subway stations have steep
stairways, grocery stores have nowhere to leave your stroller
while you shop, and the streets spawn epic slush puddles.
In walking cities like New York, pushing a stroller is sometimes
more trouble than it’s worth. Because of this, we love
our infant carriers. The only problem is that it is difficult
to keep your baby warm while using one. You can’t put
the baby in a snowsuit because the baby is uncomfortable (if
they even fit into the carrier at all). Most people wear a
big coat and wrap it around themselves and the baby in the
carrier, or they tuck a blanket all around, trying to keep
the baby warm. Neither solution is very good.
I am a Baby Bjorn addict, and didn’t
want to stop carrying my daughter in the winter. I invented
the Popover prototype as a method of keeping her warm and
dry in virtually all conditions. Every single time Rebecca
and I stepped out onto the street someone would ask me where
I got the prototype. It seemed like too great a product to
keep to myself, so I started looking into what it would take
to manufacture enough of them to sell.
I decided to make the Popover out of Malden
Mills Polartec® WindPro® fleece, which is a superior
product you can read about here,
and to manufacture the Popover at Equinox
Ltd., a living wage factory in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Not only is this a great product from a design and utility
perspective, but it is a socially responsible product as well.
Beebles is the company
that is bringing you the Popover. The name of Beebles was
suggested by our little friend, Matthew’s nickname.
Last year, when Matthew went to school, he ceased to be called
Beebles. It seemed a shame to lose such a great name, so we
named the company after him. Beebles will continue to bring
you great and innovative products to make your life easier
and help you take great care of your baby. We look forward
to being part of your family, and to hearing your ideas and
comments. Please contact us at info@Popoverbaby.com.
